Introduction

HardwareAssetManagement.com ("we", "our", or "us") publishes educational content about hardware asset management. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit our website, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. By using the site, you agree to the practices described here.

This site is operated as an editorial publication. We do not run a SaaS product, do not offer accounts, and do not handle customer financial transactions. The data we process is therefore limited to what is needed to operate a public website, understand traffic patterns, respond to inquiries, and serve advertising.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

If you contact us by email, we receive whatever information you choose to send: typically your name, email address, and the contents of your message. We use that information only to respond to you and to improve the site based on the feedback we receive.

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit, our hosting provider and analytics tools automatically collect technical information that browsers normally send, including:

  • IP address (used in truncated/anonymized form for analytics)
  • Browser type, version, and language
  • Operating system and approximate device type
  • Referring URL (the page that linked you here)
  • Pages visited on this site, time on page, and broad geographic region (typically country and region, not street-level)
  • Date and time of access

This information is used to understand which content is useful, diagnose technical problems, and protect the site against abuse.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the site, measure how it is used, and (where applicable) to deliver and personalize advertising. The categories we use are:

  • Strictly necessary: required for the site to load and render correctly. These cannot be disabled without breaking the site.
  • Analytics: set by Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-YRB74MV17L) so we can see aggregate page-view counts, traffic sources, and on-page engagement. Analytics cookies do not identify you personally to us.
  • Advertising: set by Google AdSense and its advertising partners to deliver advertising and, where allowed, to personalize the ads you see. See the "Advertising" section below for details.

Detailed cookie information is available in our Cookie Policy, including how to opt out of advertising cookies.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to measure traffic. Google Analytics processes information about how you use this site (pages, referrer, device class, approximate location) to produce reports we use to improve content. Google may use this data in line with its own policies. We have configured the property to truncate IP addresses where supported.

You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, by blocking the analytics tag with a privacy extension, or by withdrawing consent through your browser's cookie controls.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

This site participates in Google AdSense, an advertising program operated by Google. Where AdSense is enabled:

  • Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • You can also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info or www.youronlinechoices.com.

For more information about how Google uses data when you use partner sites or apps, see Google's policy. Google's general advertising policies are available at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

Some advertisers and ad networks accessed through AdSense may also place cookies. We do not control these third parties; their use of information is governed by their own privacy policies.

Third-Party Services We Use

We use the following categories of third-party services. Each operates under its own privacy policy:

  • Web hosting and content delivery: to serve site assets and protect against abuse.
  • Google Analytics: to measure traffic and engagement (see above).
  • Google AdSense and its advertising partners: to deliver advertising (see above).
  • Email service: to receive and respond to messages sent to our contact addresses.
  • Search engines (Google, Bing): to verify ownership of the site and submit sitemaps for indexing.

We do not sell personal information to third parties.

How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Operate and maintain the site and its core functionality.
  • Understand which content is useful and where readers struggle, so we can improve it.
  • Respond to questions, feedback, and corrections you send us.
  • Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and security incidents.
  • Comply with legal obligations.
  • Display advertising that funds the site (see "Advertising" above).

Legal Bases (EU/UK Visitors)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR/UK GDPR:

  • Legitimate interests: for basic analytics, security monitoring, and responding to inquiries.
  • Consent: for optional cookies, including analytics and advertising cookies, where required by local law. You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligation: for any processing required to comply with applicable law.

Your Privacy Rights

EEA / UK (GDPR)

If you are in the EEA or UK, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erase your data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Restrict or object to processing of your data.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where consent is the legal basis.
  • Data portability: receive your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

California (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose.
  • Delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to limited exceptions.
  • Correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell personal information; advertising cookies served by third parties may, however, be considered "sharing" under the CPRA. To limit this, use the opt-out links in the "Advertising" section above.
  • Be free from discrimination for exercising any of these rights.

How to Exercise Your Rights

Email [email protected] with the request you would like us to act on. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law (typically 30 days for GDPR requests and 45 days for CCPA requests, with possible extensions).

Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as needed for the purposes described above:

  • Analytics data: retained per the Google Analytics retention setting configured for the property; aggregated metrics may be retained indefinitely.
  • Email correspondence: retained for as long as needed to address the inquiry and a reasonable period afterward for follow-up.
  • Server logs: retained for short periods for security and operations, then rotated.

When data is no longer needed, it is deleted or anonymized.

Data Security

We use commercially reasonable measures to protect information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction, including HTTPS for all pages, restricted access to mailbox accounts, and reliance on reputable third parties for hosting and analytics. No system is perfectly secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

International Data Transfers

Our service providers may process data in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States. Where required, transfers are protected by mechanisms such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or applicable adequacy decisions.

Children's Privacy

This site is not directed to children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.

Do Not Track

Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. There is no industry-wide standard for how websites should respond, and we do not currently change behavior based on DNT. To limit tracking, use the cookie controls in your browser and the opt-out links above.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we do, we will revise the "Last reviewed on" date at the top of this page. Material changes may be highlighted in a notice on the site for a reasonable period.
